The Bronze Star course, offered by the Lifesaving Society, is an entry-level lifesaving program designed to prepare candidates for future lifeguard training while building strong swimming skills, personal fitness, and safety awareness. Ideal for youth aged 8 to 12, Bronze Star develops essential water rescue skills, stroke efficiency, and the ability to make safe decisions in aquatic emergencies. The program emphasizes teamwork, problem-solving, and judgment, with participants learning self-rescue techniques, safe entries, and simulated rescues. Though there are no formal prerequisites, it is recommended that candidates have completed the Swim Patrol program or Swim Level 6. The course comprises both classroom and water activities, requiring 100% attendance and participation. All course components are evaluated by certified instructors, and successful participants receive a Bronze Star medal, certification card, and crest. Completion of Bronze Star is excellent preparation for the Bronze Medallion course, the next step in the Lifesaving Society’s training continuum.
Prerequisites: 8-12 years of age, Swim Patrol experience OR minimum Swim Level 6 recommended
