Swim Instructors Recert

Description:

The Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Recertification Course is designed for current Swim for Life Instructors whose certification has expired or is nearing expiration. This one-day, evaluation-based course focuses on ensuring that instructors maintain the necessary skills, knowledge, and teaching standards to effectively deliver the Swim for Life program. Participants will be assessed on their ability to demonstrate and teach swim strokes, safety techniques, and appropriate progressions for swimmers of various skill levels. The course also evaluates instructional abilities, lesson planning, and effective communication with participants. This course is for assessment purposes only, with no formal instruction provided. Upon successful completion, participants will renew their Swim for Life Instructor certification for an additional two years.

 

January 1, 2026 UPDATE:

Effective January 1, 2026, all participants completing their Swim Instructor Recertification must first complete the  Adapted Swim Instructor Course- Online Session: Meeting the Needs of Diverse Swimmers Online Course prior to their recertification date.  Proof of completion must be brought to the in-person recertification session. Participants who do not complete the online course in advance or fail to provide proof of completion will be ineligible to complete the recert and will not qualify for a transfer or refund.

  • 5 hours

Materials Required:

  • Swim Instructor Box (additional purchase if needed)
  • Whistle (additional purchase if needed)

Certification Duration:

  • 2 years

Recertification:

  • 5 hours

 

Prerequisites: Lifesaving Swim Instructor certification (not Lifesaving Instructor or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor) (current within 5 years of certification date - current award recommended), Online Adapted Course completed for courses Jan 1, 2026 onwards.
